At last, Microsoft has launched a new version of the industrial-strength RDBMS.

Microsoft's SQL Server 2008 will have been released. It has been three years in gestation, but the wait has been worthwhile.

Most Microsoft products follow a cycle - major release followed by minor. SQL Server 2000 to 2005 was a huge change. The Business Intelligence (BI) tools changed extensively, the engine altered significantly, and even the user interface (UI) was completely different.
