A step-by-step guide (Cookbook) with tips and information for installing Oracle Database 10g with Real Application Cluster (RAC) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3.

[From Werner Puschitz]

The following procedure is a step-by-step guide (Cookbook) with tips and information for installing Oracle Database 10g with Real Application Cluster (RAC) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3. This article covers Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS), Oracle's Automatic Storage Management (ASM), and FireWire-Based Shared Storage.

The primary objective of this article in it's current version is to demonstrate a quick installation of Oracle 10g with RAC on RH AS 3. For example, I will not go too much into details about Automatic Storage Management (ASM), but I will show how to configure a couple ASM disks and how to tell Oracle to use it. However, I've plans to add more information to this article in the future, for example, tuning RAC, optimizing newer Linux versions for Oracle 10g, adding nodes dynamically to a running cluster and much more. Basically, this article is a work in progress.
