Oracle User Group Supports PeopleSoft Acquisition; J.D. Edwards Users Oppose

It's unlikely to sway the PeopleSoft board of directors, but Oracle said Monday that members of its Applications Users Group support Oracle's hostile takeover bid for PeopleSoft. And J. D. Edwards' user group opposed the merger.

It's unlikely to sway the PeopleSoft board of directors, but Oracle said Monday that members of its Applications Users Group support Oracle's hostile takeover bid for PeopleSoft. And J. D. Edwards' user group opposed the merger.

Oracle launched a hostile takeover bid for PeopleSoft a couple of weeks ago, shortly after PeopleSoft announced it would buy J.D. Edwards & Co. for $1.7 billion. Oracle later sweetened the deal to $6.3 billion. PeopleSoft's board has recommended stockholders reject the offer.

The Oracle users group supports the merger because it believes an expanded Oracle customer base will provide additional resources to build better applications and upgrades.
