MySQL AB announces a new version of the MySQL™ database that includes 'subselects' and other enhancements designed to facilitate large-scale enterprise application development with MySQL.

LINUXWORLD EXPO, NEW YORK - (January 21, 2003) - MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today announced a new version of the MySQL database that includes "subselects" and other enhancements designed to facilitate large-scale enterprise application development with MySQL.

The first development release of MySQL Version 4.1 is now available for download at no cost from the MySQL Web site at www.mysql.com. Version 4.1 represents a major upgrade to the MySQL database software. In addition to the standard MySQL features such as full support for transactions, Version 4.1 integrates improvements that enhance MySQL's architectural foundation for building heavy-load commercial applications.

MySQL Version 4.1 is the newest "development" version, which means that it has no known bugs and is intended for use by the MySQL developer community, but MySQL AB may make small improvements to it over the next few months. All MySQL releases, including all development releases, are stable and free of bugs, having been checked with the MySQL benchmarks and an extensive test suite before they are released.
