Microsoft is building up steam in the storage backup market via tighter integration with Computer Associates International. But where does this cozy little duo leave Veritas Software Corp?

CA and Microsoft have swapped APIs in order to tightly couple CA's BrightStor Enterprise Backup software with Microsoft's SQL Server database software running on Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

The result? The fastest database backup and restore performance recorded on any platform ever, both companies claim. Even faster than Oracle and Veritas on Unix, which is the industry standard for large data centers today.
