Novell recently released a public beta version of MySQL optimized for NetWare 6. Novell intends to officially release MySQL for NetWare before the end of 2002 and will make all future optimizations to the Novell version of MySQL available as open source on the MySQL Web site. Future releases of NetWare will include the NetWare-optimized MySQL database.

In related news, Novell also recently posted a whitepaper deployment guide for NetWare with MySQL. The whitepaper details NetWare AMP, a set of core products that work together to create a powerful development environment on a NetWare server. NetWare AMP is comprised of NetWare 6, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.

NetWare 6 with SP2 is required for NetWare AMP. The NetWare AMP deployment guide was written using a combination of NetWare 6 SP2, Apache 1.3, MySQL 4.0.3, and PHP 4.0.8.

The MySQL for NetWare 6 beta release can be downloaded from http://developer.novell.com/ndkservlets/ndkdownload?filename=le167.zip&logentry=leadedge.
