Microsoft recently released Service Pack 1 (SP1) for the Windows CE Edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (SQL Server CE) v1.1. The new Service Pack offers support for Windows CE .NET devices. Other additions include support for the new Pocket PC 2002 Software Development Kit (SDK) and the Handheld PC 2000 SDK, as well as integrated extensions of enterprise applications, which are now recognized as part of the SQL Server CE setup (so mobile application developers can build on these new Windows CE operating environments).
From Microsoft, "You can use SQL Server CE 1.1 with SP1 to take advantage of larger storage technologies for mobile devices. To minimize main RAM usage, SQL Server CE 1.1 with SP1 enables you to locate the temporary databases used to store data during processing, queries, replication, and so forth on alternative storage devices, such as removable storage (CompactFlash, Microdrive, and so on). This way your system won't run out of memory when it creates temporary database files during complex processing. Main memory is now conserved for the main database file and application.
"A set of important software updates are included in this service pack. You should install SQL Server CE 1.1 SP1 to ensure that you have the latest set of program updates. SQL Server CE 1.1 SP1 provides operating environment updates and software fixes for the SQL Server CE Developer Tools and device software components only. This service pack does not include any updates to the server-side replication components that reside on the Internet Information Services (IIS)."
