The improvements Oracle has made with MySQL 5.5, with Windows integration, is sure to increase downloads. Improvements include 550% faster for read only, 1560% faster for read/write on Windows Server 2008. Said Tomas Ulin, vice president of MySQL development at Oracle, “these numbers are mind-blowing; it’s not every day you can come out with these kinds of improvements.” Also improved are recovery times from 10x to 40x on some systems, new semi-synchronous replication, SIGNAL/RESIGNAL support, and InnoDB performance improvements. MySQL 5.5 is currently completely open source with plans of offering a commercial version with additional features.
