Take a few minutes to browse through 40 quick facts about Oracle.

Oracle has been around long enough that it is just plain fun to sometimes sit back and watch the company—reminiscing over what has gone by over the years. Baseline has done that for us—putting together 40 interesting quick facts about Oracle.

For instance, did you know that after the company ported the Oracle RDBMS for commercial applications, revenue doubled every year between 1980 and 1987 with much of Oracle’s early success attributed to picking up IBM as a customer? AND that the early ideas behind Oracle’s RDBMS development were largely inspired by a paper written by an IBM researcher. Interesting turn of events here wouldn’t you think.

And do you remember, if you were into databases at the time, when the company introduced Oracle 7—clearly the landmark version of Oracle back in 1992. I was there and it WAS outstanding.

There are great tidbits like a quote from Ellison back in 1998: “If the internet turns out not to be the future of computing, we’re toast. But if it is, we’re golden”
